North East Neighborhoods Development Corporation (NENDC) is a community development corporation formed in 1992 to promote and advance the general welfare of the area it serves. NENDC began its operations in 1994. Among its goals are improving economic conditions for area residents and businesses, ensuring access to safe, affordable housing, and increasing opportunities for home ownership within the NENDC service area. Along with these increased ownership opportunities, NENDC looks to provide incentives for long-term residency in the area.
In addition, NENDC seeks to promote and foster a healthy neighborhood environment for businesses. By ensuring development, expansion, retention, stabilization and support for jobs and business, NENDC works to provide residents with higher wage jobs and opportunities to own and manage businesses.
All of North East Neighborhoods Development Corporation’s efforts are directed toward making the area it serves more livable and appealing and to increase the vitality of the area. NENDC seeks to accomplish these goals by reversing deterioration and improving the physical appearance, revitalizing and fostering pride in the community and eliminating current and preventing future blight in housing, commercial/industrial areas, and green space.
Since it began NENDC has helped more than 200 homeowners with the Home Improvement Program.
NENDC has been an active participant with the Phalen Corridor Initiative, White Bear Avenue Business Association, District 2 Community Council, and Phalen Village Business Association.
The Board of Directors consists of at least eleven, but no more than fifteen, individuals. Five of these Directors must be residents of District 2 and at least one Director must reside in District 1 or District 4. In addition, five of the Board Members must represent the community at-large or the area’s financial institutions, businesses, nonprofits or voluntary organizations. A majority must be residents of NENDC’s service area and one third must meet federal low-income requirements |
